Why Competitive Scootering Should Be Open to More Riders

Talent Is Everywhere. Opportunity Isn’t.

Freestyle scootering has never been short of talented riders.
Spend enough time at local skateparks or scrolling through riding clips and you’ll find people
pushing their level everywhere. The harder part has always been getting that riding beyond
your local community.
Competing at major events takes time and money. Travelling isn’t always possible,
especially for younger riders, and living hundreds of kilometres from the biggest contests can
make breaking into competitive scootering difficult before you’ve even had the chance to
show what you can do.
Your postcode shouldn’t decide how far your riding can go. That’s where online competition becomes interesting.

Another Route Into Competitive Scootering

CityLegends gives riders the opportunity to compete internationally without first having to
reach an international event. Riders can film at the skatepark or street spot they already ride, submit their clips and take
part in competitions alongside athletes from different countries. Someone riding in a small
town can put their best clip into the same competition as someone surrounded by major
skateparks and events.
That doesn’t make physical contests any less important.
Live competitions bring pressure, atmosphere and a completely different experience. They’re a huge part of freestyle scootering and always will be. Online competition simply adds another route in, especially for riders who might otherwise never get the opportunity.

Your Clips Can Be Worth More Than Likes

Most scooter riders are already filming. A new trick gets landed, somebody pulls out a phone and within a few minutes the clip is online. Usually, that’s where the process ends. On CityLegends, the same clip can actually lead somewhere. Riders can use their skating to enter challenges and competitions where rewards can include prizes, vouchers and other opportunities. A clip isn’t only something to post and forget about anymore. It can become an entry into a competition, introduce your riding to a new audience or even put you on a brand’s radar. For all the hours that can go into landing one trick, getting something tangible back feels like a pretty good deal.
From Local Riders to a Global Community

Chilli Pro Scooter and CityLegends have already seen what can happen when that opportunity is opened up. Through previous collaborations, riders from different parts of the world have been brought into the same competition, giving them a chance to show their riding beyond their usual circles. The CHILLI Best Line Cup took that idea even further, with the winning rider earning a one-year sponsorship from Chilli. It’s a good example of where online and traditional scootering can meet. The goal isn’t to move competition away from skateparks. It’s to make sure the road towards those opportunities has more than one starting point. There are talented riders everywhere. Giving more of them the chance to be seen can only make competitive freestyle scootering stronger.
